Objective: Promoting women’s leadership and helping to stop gender-based violence.

As a volunteer Gender and Communications Consultant, I spent six months in Myanmar helping to develop a dissemination strategy to promote women’s leadership, and develop a plan of action to overcome gender-based violence. I enjoyed working with local NGO Educational Initiatives and met many inspiring leaders in the organization.

I lived in Yangon, the largest city in the country, where the weather is warm, the food is delicious and the people are wonderful. When I wasn’t busy with my placement, I took the opportunity to do some sightseeing. Local friends made me feel welcome. They went out of their way to show me the best parts of their country.

I am happy about my decision to go to Myanmar. I have a passion for development and one of my ambitions is to help the poor live better lives. This opportunity allowed me to combine my work experience, my passion for development and my grad studies.
