Partner Profile: Mental Health Treatment for the Dignity of Each Person
Objective: Supporting people with mental health challenges
In some parts of West Africa, a person suffering from mental illness is thought to be possessed by the devil. Often, the individual is outcast from their community and left to suffer alone. In Benin, Cuso International volunteers are working with local partner, Saint-Camille, to make a difference.
Volunteers with Saint-Camille help offer vital services and care for the mentally ill. From operating day clinics and residential care centres, to dispensing medicine and running psychosocial rehabilitation programs, to supporting the centre’s social enterprises and job training, Saint-Camille and its volunteers help more than 35,000 vulnerable people each year.
