Objective: Empowering young people to find jobs

I am originally from Ghana, and served as Organizational Development and Coordination Specialist with the Youth Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Access and Development (YouLead) project based in Cross River State, Nigeria. The initiative promotes youth entrepreneurship and employment in agriculture, forestry, aquaculture and eco-tourism.

In my first four months of volunteering, I conducted research on youth access to finance, with a goal of identifying funding sources for young entrepreneurs and developing a resource guide.

During my placement, I also helped to set up a Youth Employment Centre; organized a conference promoting volunteerism; and hosted a TV discussion to raise awareness about HIV. I’ve had an amazing experience. I have no regrets coming to Nigeria. As a matter of fact, I wish I could stay here longer than my intended duration because of the relationships I’ve built.
